Gardenia and Deonta met at work. Deonta said he would lose his focus when he saw her walking though the building. She would lock the Business down, and he would stop and watch her until she was out of his site. He said his thought was that this girl had potential, and wanted to get to know her. Gardenia wasn’t sure what to think about him watching her so closely, but she was flattered. After a couple of weeks, he decided to follow her to her office and asked if she was a permanent employee. She replied, “not yet!” After that, he continued to stop in her office with conversations. They developed a friendship over two years. It was during the pandemic that they established a strong romantic connection.

Where did he pop the question?
We were in Cancun, Mexico, on June 18, 2022.
What do you remember about this day?
Deonta- I remember feeling emotional instantly, crying tears of joy. Gardenia- I knew it was coming, but I couldn’t believe it when he did it.
Tell me about the proposal?
Deonta- We met a couple, and I told them I wanted to propose. We came up with the idea of doing it at the Japanese Restaurant for dinner. We were waiting at the bar for a table. I pretended I needed to go to the restroom and walked away while she sat at the bar playing with her phone. While she was distracted, I gave my phone to the bartender to record us while I proposed. I get down on one knee with the ring in my hands, looking up and smiling at her. A few seconds went by before she noticed and looked over at me. Gardenia- I couldn’t believe it at first. I was like, dang, that’s a nice ring. He asked me with tears in his eyes, “Will you marry me?” I said yes, stood up, and kissed him after he put the ring on. I hugged him. We received a standing ovation from everyone around us. What do you love about each other? Deonta- She always smiles when I enter the room. She’s a very kind person with a huge heart and loves me. Gardenia- He is very protective, and I trust him with my life. He is a good provider and has this dry sense of humor that keeps me laughing.
